Vice-President of the World Bank Group for the Middle East and North Africa, Inger Andersen region, has announced the launch of a support program worth up to 1.2 billion dollars to support the democratic transition in Tunisia.
The funding provided in 2014 includes $ 750 million in support of the reforms undertaken by the government to provide equal opportunities to all economic, promote growth and create jobs, while improving accountability in the public service to citizens.
Financial support from the Bank will be based on progress of the reform program in Tunisia during the last year of transition to democracy. A proposed $ 300 million focused on strengthening the capacities of local communities support the provisions of the new Constitution on decentralization.
The remaining funds will complement the activities of the World Bank in the country. In this context, a line of credit to support banks that give SMEs access to credit, which makes them as default, receive an additional contribution of $ 100 million.
A $ 50 million additional dollar for a project to promote exports will help promote the sectors in which Tunisia can be singular in its competitiveness.
As part of the continuing collaboration of the World Bank with national operations and water distribution company (SONEDE), there is a proposed $ 20 million in respect of the current year for provide the Tunis metropolitan area of another pumping station.
